Indie developers are the starving artists of the video-game world, often brilliant and innovative, but also misunderstood, underfunded and more prone to writing free-form poetry on their LiveJournals. We at Joystiq believe no one deserves to starve, and many indie developers are entitled to a fridge full of tasty, fulfilling media coverage, right here.

You’ll be able to buy Mass Effect 3 digitally on March 6, the same day it launches in stores. And for doing so, you won’t just get the convenience of pants-optional purchasing — you’ll also get (just like with every other offer relating to Mass Effect 3 ) some DLC, in the form of an M55 Argus rifle.

In 2007, while Infinity Ward was building the first Modern Warfare , Underground Development began working on a top-secret, third-person shooter in the Call of Duty franchise, titled Devil’s Brigade , Vox Games reports . Based on a real-life group of ruthless, almost superhuman American and Canadian soldiers in World War II, Devil’s Brigade was Activision’s fallback if fans didn’t get the switch to a contemporary setting with Modern Warfare . Devil’s Brigade focused on tactical strategy, stealth missions and super-athletic Special Forces combat

We imagine whatever “GTA TV” and “Rockstar TV” are to be a lot like either Fox or Spike, so it’s bizarre that Take-Two even bothered applying for a trademark for those names. But that’s just what the publisher has done, as OXM UK discovered. Both applications were filed within the past week with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, though neither has been approved just yet (nor will either be until an examining attorney is assigned “approximately three months after filing date”)

Last monday, Microsoft submitted a trademark filing for “Avatar Famestar” to the US Patent and Trademark Office. The application classifies the trademark for “downloadable software for video game services” and “providing an online portal for video game services and social networking,” which leads us to believe it has something to do with video games
